JOYFUL DAYS WITH WALKING STICK AND WALKING LEAF

Koi Sakunee

THAILAND

Through a combination of colour pencil, watercolour, oil pastel and collage Thailand-based Koi Sakunee brings us her final piece, a picture book called ‘Joyful Days with Walking Stick and Walking Leaf’. The book connects people, most especially children, with the secret lives of stick and leaf insects. As we follow Koi from tropical insect sanctuary to storyboard, individual sketches to the final picture book, we learn all about animals that can sway like the wind and disappear in plain sight.

“Arun Uncle also pointed out that they are not only camouflage themselves but also cling and sway like leaves when they really blown by the wind. Even though Ploy did not see the Walking Leaf in the forest, but she felt happy.”

“During walking Arun pointed out to the birds, butterflies, beetles and some flowers. He instructed us to walk quietly in order to observe the wonders of nature.”
